Is this program safe?
This question is very important to us. PingStalker is signed using Apple's code signing services, ensuring authenticity and integrity. There is NO tracking in the app whatsoever. The only "call home" functionality is checking if there is a new version available. All purchasing and credit card details are handled securely by a trusted third-party payment processor (Lemon Squeezy).
This program performs network sniffing - is this safe?
We are only "sniffing" for specific packets we care about (LLDP, EAP packets, DHCP, ARP requests, ICMP requests, and the like). These packets are not stored, and we are simply using tcpdump's metadata to collect and show log entries. No sensitive data is captured or retained.
What permissions are needed to run this program?
PingStalker requires the following permissions:
- Location Services: Required for Wi-Fi access and network information
- Network Access: Required for IP scans and network discovery
- Sniffer Interfaces: Required to perform packet captures. We use a common method to access those interfaces (like Wireshark does) by installing a run-on-boot service. If this access is not already set up, root access will be needed to enable this the first time.
